There are miles and miles of hiking trails. The views are phenomenal, there's plenty of wildlife, and more than one peak to summit.

TRAINING: Stage I: You should be walking out on some trails, slowly adding distance and hills. If you've not been exercising much, start with short flat walks, maybe 2 to 4 miles. If you're already in pretty good physical condition, begin trail walks with some elevation. You might consider coming on our monthly hikes. Call for information.
Stage II: Add a light pack. It's time to add a small day pack, not just a fanny pack. Start with 5 or 10 pounds, depending on your current physical condition. The items you put in the pack should include a liter of water, snacks and/or lunch, extra clothing (either to put on or what you'll be taking off as the day warms up), a first aid kit (more on this next time), sunscreen, and maybe a camera and binoculars, and, of course, a map and compass (you should know how to use these...if not let us know & we'll instruct you). Try out any new foods you plan on taking, such as snacks you've never eaten before. You wouldn't want to be on the trail and find out your new food bar gives you heartburn or worse.
Stage III: Try going 2 or 3 miles with your fully loaded back to see how it feels. Go up and down a grade. Make sure your pack is well balanced. Give us a call with any questions. Good luck!

Remember, when you purchase an extended day trip, you automatically become a member of our hiking club.
